Keynote Session Feb 2
Tom Billings, UBA Executive Director
As a young pastor I watched many men who had been an influence on my life drop out of the ministry because of burnout, family issues, finances, conflict and a host of other reasons. That troubled me. I wanted to serve God in the ministry for the rest of my life, but I knew I could face some of the same issues that led these men to leave the ministry. What did I need to different than they did? That became the basis for my doctoral work and the things I learned shaped my ministry.
A careful study of the gospel shows that Jesus employed specific, practical strategies that helped him handle the stresses and strains of leadership. I interviewed some veteran leaders to underscore how these practices can sustain leaders of the long term.
"What did you do that has enabled you to serve God and lead for a lifetime?” … that was the question I asked John Bisagno, John Morgan, Bob Overton, Ron Lyles and Royce Measures. Their answers were honest, candid and full of wisdom. Fortunately, we captured the interviews on video. Their responses will serve as the basis for my presentation on Leading for a Lifetime. Join us.
