UBA is excited to introduce you to the five new staff members who have joined the team within the last couple of months! The addition of two administrative staff and three African-American church consultants will be valuable as UBA seeks to assist churches in their work.
On the administrative side, Briana Perea and Alba Coronel are providing some much needed assistance to the senior staff members. Lawrence Scott, Bryant Lee, and Mike Pender have joined the staff as African-American church consultants.
Briana Perea’s role consists of two main parts: data management and church records, and supporting Dana Bowdoin in the financial office. Briana is excited to join such a warm and welcoming team. She is looking forward to building relationships with the rest of the team and growing in her new position through learning new skills and overcoming challenges. She is excited to provide administrative help to the UBA as they help churches meet needs in Houston.
Briana is a Houston native. She grew up near Hobby airport and has primarily lived on the southeast side of Houston. She has been married to Manuel for eight years and they have one son, Asher, who is four years old. She has been attending Ecclesia Clear Lake for the last six years, where she volunteers with the kid’s ministry. In her free time, she enjoys reading, writing, spending time outdoors, and working in her container garden on her balcony. She also plays the violin and baritone ukulele, despite (in her words) having a terrible sense of rhythm!
Alba Coronel is the new administrative assistant for hispanic ministries at UBA. Her areas of responsibility include communications, event management, and general support for Spanish-speaking congregations. As a pastor’s kid, she is excited to be involved in helping Hispanic churches around Houston, as well as helping the UBA team in any way possible. She hopes to be able to use her experience working in children’s ministry.
Alba is also a Houston native, and her family is originally from Monterrey, Mexico. Her father is a pastor at Iglesia Bautista Resurreccion in Jacinto City. They have been at that church for 17 years. Alba is a Co-Children’s Church Director and plans year round events for the children at her church, including Vacation Bible School and field trips. Growing up, Alba attended GAs and Acteens at Tallowood Baptist Church. She is thankful for the role Tallowood played in her spiritual growth, including giving her a heart for missions. In her free time, Alba enjoys playing the flute.
African American Ministry Team
As the new African American church consultants, Lawrence Scott, Bryant Lee, and Mike Pender will serve the unique needs of new and existing African-American congregations in Houston, helping these churches engage the Great Commission and Great Commandment.
Mike Pender serves as the Team Leader for the UBA African American Ministries Team. He oversees and provides guidance as UBA develops strategies for serving African-American congregations as well as congregations seeking to minister more effectively in communities with an African-American demographic. Mike is looking forward to collaborating with other churches as they reach Houston for Christ.
Originally from the Bronx in New York City, Mike moved to Houston in the 1985. He serves as the lead pastor at Fallbrook Church. He has been married to Janice for thirty years, and they have four children—two daughters and two sons.
Lawrence Scott is the planting and lead pastor of Harvest Point Fellowship Church in Pearland. He is married to Shannon Scott and they have five children: Kaelyn, Leah, Eden, Lawrence III, and Zachary. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from the University of Houston and a Master of Theology (ThM) degree from Dallas Theological Seminary (DTS).
He is currently pursuing his doctorate from DTS in Dallas, Texas. He enjoys traveling and trying new restaurants. He is looking forward to serving and collaborating with churches around Houston for the glory of God.
Bryant Lee was born and raised in St. Louis MO. He has a passion to teach and preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ with clarity and is the founding and Senior Pastor of Higher Expectations Church in Humble. He is a well decorated soldier having served in both combat and in times of peace prior to his retirement from the U.S. Army after twenty-three years of service. In his free time, Bryant enjoys taking road trips, and playing Par 3 golf.
Bryant holds a Bachelor of Bible Studies from Survine Ministries Bible College, Bachelor of Science in Multidisciplinary Studies from Grantham University and a Master’s of Theology from Liberty University. He has been married to Dell for twenty-nine years. They have two sons, Bryant Jr. and Joshua, and two daughters, Brionna and Kalyn. They are proud grandparents to Jasyn, Josh Jr, and Xavier.
Join us in welcoming Briana, Alba, Lawrence, Bryant, and Mike to the UBA family!
