De todas las historias de la bíblica, una de mis favoritas es la visión de los huesos secos en el capítulo 37 del libro de Ezequiel. Dios lleva al profeta a un valle que según los primeros versos estaba “lleno de huesos” y “secos en gran manera.” Entonces Dios le hace una pregunta muy extraña al profeta:
“vivirán esos huesos?”
A lo que el profeta contestó, “solo tú, Señor lo sabes”.
Una de nuestras grandes realidades en la ciudad de Houston (posible, igual en otras ciudades) es la gran cantidad de iglesias en decadencia e inclusive muertas o moribundas. En mi posición de consultor de Unión Baptist Association me puedo relacionar con el Profeta, porque como él también yo puedo ver nuestro propio “valle de huesos secos” y sentir la impotencia que sintió Ezequiel cuando respondió “solo tu, Señor lo sabes.”
¿Pueden revivir las iglesias muertas?
Dios ordena a Ezequiel que profetice vida a esos huesos secos “He aquí, yo hago entrar espíritu en vosotros, y viviréis.” Si usted sigue leyendo se dará cuenta que los huesos se convirtieron en seres vivos. No dudo que Dios da vida a los muertos (Juan 3:16).
Yo mismo conozco cantidades de personas que han sido transformadas por el poder vivificador de Dios. Sin embargo, cuando veo iglesias que se han institucionalizado y por décadas han dejado de cumplir con la Gran Comisión, debo confesar que mi fe me falla.
¿Será verdad que estas iglesias pueden vivir?
Replantación: La historia de la renovación de una iglesia de casi 100 años
Usualmente, las iglesias enfermas esperan hasta que ya es muy tarde para llamar a nuestras oficinas pidiendo ayuda. Por esta razón nuestro equipo de consultores ha estado ya por un tiempo considerando algunas opciones que pudiéramos presentar a nuestras iglesias que por alguna razón han llegado al fin de su efectividad. ¡Broadway Baptist Temple era una de esas iglesias!
La conversación inicial con ellos fue muy difícil; la iglesia que fue fundada en 1925, llegó a tener una membresía de más de 500 personas, ahora tenía una membresía de 9-12 personas. Por motivo de una enfermedad, el pastor ya no podía predicar los domingos. La iglesia no tenía los recursos para contratar a otro pastor, y para empeorar las cosa, el edificio estaba bastante descuidado y necesitaba muchas reparaciones.
La iglesia estaba siendo sostenida por una fiel familia que juntos con el pastor soñaban y oraban para que la Gloria de Dios regresará nuevamente a su iglesia. Cuando les presente la posibilidad de replantar su iglesia, el grupo existente estuvo unánime y felizmente de acuerdo.
¿Qué Es Replantación?
En relación con las iglesias, replantación es establecer una nueva iglesia, vibrante y misional sin perder el legado de la iglesia existente. Para lograr esto se necesita la colaboración de todo el cuerpo de Cristo.
Tal fue el caso de Broadway Baptist Temple. la Iglesia Bautista Golden Acres y Templo Bautista South Aldine formaron parte del equipo de replantación, ayudando con logística y capacitación. La Primera Iglesia Bautista de Pasadena envió 30 voluntarios durante una semana para reparar la mayor parte del edificio. Nos unimos a este equipo de pastores y otras iglesias para ayudar a la Iglesia Intimidad con Dios y al Broadway Baptist Temple a convertirse en una nueva iglesia, vibrante y misional.
En febrero del 2019, se unieron las dos iglesias en una sola, el primer servicio fue extraordinario, había una hermosa y dulce presencia de Dios que todavía permanece hasta hoy. Los miembros de las dos iglesias ahora son uno. El liderazgo es uno. El templo está siendo renovado, y la iglesia nuevamente está glorificando a Dios, alcanzando su comunidad.
Ahora, si usted me preguntara, “¿Puede mi iglesia vivir?” yo le puedo responder sin lugar a duda, “¡SI!”
Dios quiere y puede darle vida a su iglesia. Nosotros deseamos ayudarle.

Of all the stories in the Bible, one of my favorites is the vision of dry bones in Ezekiel 37. God takes the prophet to a valley that was "full of bones" and "dried up in a great way" according to the first verses. Then, God asks a very strange question to the prophet:
"Will those bones live?"
To which the prophet replied, "Sovereign Lord, you alone know."
One of our great realities in the city of Houston—as in many other cities—is the large number of churches in decline or even dying. In my position as a consultant for the Union Baptist Association, I relate to the Prophet, because I can also see our own "valley of dry bones" and feel the helplessness that Ezekiel felt when he answered, "Sovereign Lord, you alone know."
Can dead churches be revived?
God commands Ezekiel to prophesy life to those dry bones "Behold, I make my spirit enter you, and you shall live." If you continue reading, you will realize that the bones became living beings. I do not doubt that God gives life to the dead (John 3:16).
I myself know lots of people who have been transformed by the life-giving power of God. However, when I see churches that have been institutionalized and for decades and have failed to comply with the Great Commission, I must confess that my faith fails me.
Is it true that these churches can live?
Replanting: Renovating a 100 Year Old Church
Usually, unhealthy churches wait until it is too late to call our offices for help. For this reason, our team of consultants has spent a lot of time considering how we can help our churches that have reached the end of their effectiveness for one reason or another. Broadway Baptist Temple was one of those churches.
The initial conversation with them was very difficult; the church that was founded in 1925 and grew to more than 500 members, now had a membership of 9-12 people. Because of an illness, the pastor could no longer preach on Sundays. The church did not have the resources to hire another pastor. To make things worse, the building was quite neglected and needed a lot of repairs.
The church was being supported by a faithful family that dreamed and prayed with the pastor so that the glory of God would return to His church. When presented with the possibility of replanting their church, the existing group unanimously and happily agreed.
What is Replanting?
In relation to churches, replanting means to establish a new, vibrant, and missional church without losing the legacy of the existing church. In order to achieve this kind of collaboration, the whole body of Christ is needed.
Such was the case with Broadway Baptist Temple. Golden Acres Baptist and Templo Bautista South Aldine were part of the replanting team, helping with logistic and training. First Baptist Church of Pasadena sent 30 volunteers for a week to repair most of the building. We joined this team of pastors and other churches to help Iglesia Intimidad Con Dios and Broadway Baptist Temple become one new, vibrant and missional church.
In February of 2019, the two churches joined into one. The first service was extraordinary with a beautiful and sweet presence of God that still remains today. The members of the two churches are now one. The leadership is one. The temple is being renewed, and the church is again glorifying God and reaching out to his community.
Now if you ask me, "Can my church live?" I can confidently answer, "YES!"
